This week saw the return of the Furness Big Bang Science and Engineering Fair returning to Furness College. Over the two days, Tuesday 17th and Wednesday 18th October, over 1,000 pupils engages with local science and engineering businesses, attended the Science Fair presentations held by the college and got a chance to meet Oscar the Robot!
The BEP (Barrow Engineering Project) Schools turned out in force, Secondary schools attended Tuesday morning and Primary schools on Wednesday with coaches funded by the Royal Academy of Engineering who this year extended their travel offer to aid other schools who would otherwise be unable to attend.
Science Fair sessions stole the show with a range of fantastic experiments put on by Furness College Science Department. Secondary and Primary pupils alike were wowed with explosions and volunteer pupils and teachers assisted with the presentation.
Oscar the Robot was once again a massive hit greeting pupils on the 3rd floor and collecting their evaluation forms. Pupils chatted to Oscar and had their photos taken, although teachers might not have been impressed with Oscar's less homework suggestion!
The event was supported by an excellent range of STEM based local companies including BAE, Siemens, and GSK.
We look forward to welcoming you back for Big Bang 2018!
