Business goes Back to School

Business representatives from the Teacher Engagement and Development Group in Ulverston went back to school this Wednesday to find out about changes to education and the challenges facing local schools.

The TED group was set up by Siemens Subsea in Ulverston to engage businesses in the area with local schools. FESP took over the running of the group in January after discussions with Siemens and made the decision to run their first session at Ulverston Victoria High School to allow business representatives from organisations including the NHS, FETL and LA12 a chance to see first hand a modern school in action, talk to STEM subject teachers about the recent changes to the curriculum and learn from Head of School Mr Hardwick the challenges schools are facing from finance to the EBac.

Many of the representatives were shocked by some of the recent changes to education including Technology and the Arts not being included in the EBac and some schools choosing humanities over languages as these are seen as "easier" subjects. This lead to two representatives offering to help the school in languages, computing and technology subjects.
