The Big Bang Fair 2018

On Friday 30th March Neil and Amy from FESP and Rowena from FEDF attended the national Big Bang Fair at the NEC in Birmingham to explore STEM opportunities and get some ideas for the Furness Big Bang in October.

We were lucky enough to have a VIP tour of the event by Mark from Engineering UK who showed us the fantastic range of exhibitors, many of which formed groups including Nuclear and Defence. March explained the difference stages set up throughout the venue and the amazing variety of exciting speakers and shows on during the day.

We had a good look around stands including those with sites in Cumbria including Sellafield, BAE, and Siemens and we had the chance to catch up with our BEP funders at the Royal Academy of Engineering.

We took part in activities like the immersive Space Show in a dome that we were lucky to have all to ourselves and we learnt all about how STEM, including 3D printing, is used in the Navy.

We came away enthused about the STEM opportunities young people can acess and full of ideas for making this years Furness Big Bang bigger and better than ever for 2018 Year of Engineering.
